A targeted appeal intended to recruit new clergymen for the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.. The letter was distributed with a packet containing four prize essays encouraging selected men to take up the ministry, and was sent out to prospective recruits, as the letter states: "Your name has been given to this Board as one who would be likely to make a successful minister."

Cochran-Inglis Family of Halifax

Thomas Cochran (1733-1801), with his father and brothers, immigrated from the north of Ireland to Halifax, Nova Scotia about 1761. He married twice (once in Nova Scotia). Descendants and relatives lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and elsewhere. Some descendants (in the British army) returned later to England, Scotland and served also in Ireland. Some descendants immigrated to New York and else- where in the United States.
