This volume contains the Proceedings of the Fifth Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (Sociedad Espanola de Astronomfa, SEA). The meeting was held at the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha in Toledo, from September 9 to 13, 2002. The event brought together 219 participants who pre sented their latest results in many different subjects. Highlights of Spanish Astrophysics IV
This volume documents the contributions presented at the Seventh Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Astronomical Society (Sociedad Española de Astronomía, SEA). The event bought together 301 participants who presented 161 contributed talks and 120 posters, the greatest number of contributions in the history of the meeting. The fact that most exciting items of the current astronomical research were addressed in the meeting is proof of the good health of the SEA, a consolidated organization founded fifteen years ago in Barcelona.

Astronomía y desarrollo rural
Las ponencias que, bajo ese título, se defendieron en la II edición de la Universidad de Verano de Aras de los Olmos, al tiempo que ponen en valor un patrimonio de una riqueza intangible e inconmensurable, evidencian la potencialidad y versatilidad de la astronomía como fuente de desarrollo para los territorios montañosos con cielos limpios. Personas procedentes del mundo de la política, de la docencia y del emprendimiento, situadas a la vanguardia de estos procesos (arte, arqueoastronomía, astrometereología, astroturismo, cosmología, medioambiente, desarrollo tecnológico, etc.) nos permiten, con sus magníficas colaboraciones, sumergirnos en un mundo de oportunidades para el desarrollo rural.
Ciencia abierta y desarrollo rural
La III Universidad Estacional de Aras de los Olmos, bajo el título “Ciencia abierta a la ciudadanía y desarrollo rural”, se dedicó a la puesta en valor del rico patrimonio de los territorios rurales y a evidenciar las propuestas para el desarrollo que les puede aportar una ciencia abierta a la ciudadanía como fuente de dinamización económica y social. Responsables políticos, profesores universitarios y emprendedores de varias disciplinas –astronomía, botánica, paleontología, arqueología, ingeniería electrónica e ingeniería de energías– situados a la vanguardia de estos procesos nos permiten, con sus ponencias vinculadas con la formación, la comunicación y la divulgación de la ciencia, adentrar-nos en un mundo de diversas oportunidades de desarrollo rural.
