En el entonces Protectorado español, hoy Marruecos, la jarca del líder rifeño Mohamed Abd el-Krim atacó a las tropas del general Fernández Silvestre cuando este avanzaba de Melilla a Alhucemas para conquistarla. Aquellos sucesos acabaron con la vida de más de 13.000 soldados españoles, llevaron a la guerra del Rif (1921-1923) y sus consecuencias marcaron el devenir de España. Este libro se basa en la prensa y los periodistas de la época y analiza cómo y de qué forma ocurrió el desastre de Annual.
