Fifteen short stories set in old Travancore of the fifties: The narratives range from an elopement which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, friendship with an imaginary ghost, tragic death of a poor girl to a brave old lady who tames a rogue elephant. There is a chase by a lone tusker and hunt for a wild boar. In one story, the daughter of a village restaurant owner, comes to his rescue when his business flounders, employing creative marketing. In another, a long-lost childhood girl friend is traced to an unknown town after many years. There is a beloved teacher who nurtures an immature student, and a smart elder sister whose talent and competence makes the younger brother worship her. Love, affection, warmth and friendship without malice are the key factors.
