Fire Hazards of Electrical Cables

This book offers a comprehensive approach to the assessment of fire hazards of electrical cables. The first part of the book describes division of cables, main parameters of electrical cables, and fault scenarios of cables leading to fire or occupant injuries. The traditional approach to fire hazards of electrical cables assessment is also described in the first part. The second part of the book is focused on the creation and description of a new approach to fire hazard assessment of electrical cables. The new approach is based on the assessment of both ignition parameters of electrical cables and the impact of their fires on the surrounding area. The ignition parameters include critical hea...

In the modern age of urbanization, the mass population is becoming progressively reliant on technical infrastructures. These industrial buildings provide integral services to the general public including the delivery of energy, information and communication technologies, and maintenance of transport networks. The safety and security of these structures is crucial as new threats are continually emerging. Safety and Security Issues in Technical Infrastructures is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the modernization of occupational security and safety practices within information technology-driven buildings. While highlighting topics such as explosion process safety, nanotechnology, and infrastructural risk analysis, this publication explores current risks and uncertainties and the raising of comprehensive awareness for experts in this field. This book is ideally designed for security managers, safety personnel, civil engineers, architects, researchers, construction professionals, strategists, educators, material scientists, property owners, and students.

Wood & Fire Safety

This proceedings volume presents new scientific works of the research workers and experts from the field of Wood Science & Fire. It looks into the properties of various tree species across the continents affecting the fire-technical properties of wood and wood-based materials, its modifications, fire-retardant methods and other technological processes that have an impact on wood ignition and burning. The results of these findings have a direct impact on Building Construction and Design describing the fire safety of wooden buildings, mainly large and multi-story ones. The results of these experiments and findings may be applied, or are directly implemented into Fire Science, Hazard Control, B...

This Special Issue of Energies on “Advances in Combustion of Gases, Liquid Fuels, Coal and Biomass” includes five manuscripts on combustion research related to energy production. Both fundamental and applied research is included. The papers contain state-of-the-art experiments, computations, and theory. Combustion provides an estimated 85% of the world’s energy consumption. Advances in combustion research can benefit society in three main ways. Improving energy efficiency can reduce fuel consumption. Improving emissions can reduce climate change and adverse health effects. Improving fire and explosion safety can protect people, property, and the environment. The topical areas covered by this Special Issue are broad. It is hoped that this breadth will lead to a better understanding of combustion and improved diagnostic and numerical tools. This, in turn, may result in improved combustors, a cleaner environment, novel fuels, and improved safety and energy security.

An analysis covering the period from the late 19th century to 1953. Ascribes antisemitism in Slovakia to the relatively high social status of the Jews, their ethnic isolationism, and their identification with Hungarian and German culture. Many Slovak national and religious leaders of this period evinced antisemitism, which was often combined with a rejection of Czechs, Hungarians, and other minorities. The antisemitism of clerical leaders was based on Catholic doctrines such as Neo-Thomism and combined with racism and admiration for Nazi Germany. The postwar Czechoslovak communist regime discarded racism, but conducted the Slánský trial in 1953. The Communist Party of Slovakia fully supported the trial of Slansky and other officials, and following it persecutions started of Slovak Jews.
