Rights-based Management in Latin American Fisheries
This document aims to provide a better understanding of the wide range of rights-based fisheries management systems in Latin-America. Rights-based management in the Latin American region is evolving, thus creating a wide diversity of schemes responding to local fisheries contexts, and institutional, resource and ecosystem dynamics and governance capacities. The document has been developed in two parts. Part I (edited and co-authored by Jose Maria Orensanz) presents case studies of fisheries targeting sedentary resources while Part II (edited and co-authored by Juan Carlos Seijo) presents case studies of industrial and small-scale finfish fisheries in the region The case studies presented in Part I include the following regimes: (i) limited entry or moratoria combined with a total allowable catch; (ii) catch shares; (iii) territorial-use privileges; and (iv) territorial communal rights by [customary and indigenous users). Vascular Disorders of the Liver
This book provides a comprehensive account on individually rare, but collectively frequent diseases of the liver. In the first part, conditions such as hepatic vascular malformations, ischemic cholangiopathy, hepatic artery occlusion, sinusoidal conditions and Budd-Chiari syndrome are discussed among others. The second part examines the causes of vascular liver disease namely, coagulation disorders, neoplasm disorders, non-malignant blood disorders, systemic diseases and toxins, among others. Restructuring Large Industrial Firms in Central and Eastern Europe
This report addresses the most important challenges facing the Latin America and Caribbean region as it attempts to replace its traditional economic and social structures, including populist institutions, with a modern, efficient, administrative state. The analysis focuses on the political economy of pending reforms and their ramifications. The report discusses (1) recent economic and political developments; (2) systemic issues such as high real interest and unemployment rates and declining export growth; (3) social policies and the need to consolidate macroeconomic stability; and (4) how to define and build the new Latin American state. An appendix provides detailed information on selected country performance.

The first part of the report contains an up-to-date summary of information on the Caribbean spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) resources, its fisheries and management. After a discussion of the biology, the fisheries situation, management aspects and the benefits of regional cooperation, the Management Workshop led to a number of important recommendations and proposed actions, including the intention of signing in the future an Inter-Institutional Agreement.
Towards Marine Ecosystem-based Management in the Wider Caribbean
An approach that encompasses the human and natural dimensions of ecosystems is one that the Wider Caribbean Region knows it must adopt and implement, in order to ensure the sustainable use of the region's shared marine resources. This volume contributes towards that vision, bringing together the collective knowledge and experience of scholars and practitioners within the Wider Caribbean to begin the process of assembling a road map towards marine ecosystem based management (EBM) for the region. It also serves a broader purpose of providing stakeholders and policy actors in each of the world's sixty-four Large Marine Ecosystems, with a comparative example of the challenges and information needs required to implement principled ocean governance generally and marine EBM in particular, at multiple levels. Additionally, the volume serves to supplement the training of graduate level students in the marine sciences by enhancing interdisciplinary understanding of challenges in implementing marine EBM.
