Petition of Pedro Millán on behalf of Juan Manuel Ramírez de Arellano, concerning restoration of his suspended salary, and payment of all wages accumulated during the suspension
Millán asks the court to restore his client's salary, suspended since November 28, 1766, and to compensate him for all of his back pay, since he has been acquitted of all charges of misconduct in a decision handed down September 19, 1770. Millán points out that Ramírez de Arellano, accountant and customs official for the royal subtreasury (real caja) at the port of San Diego de Acapulco, is especially in need of all of his wages, because of personal debts, high legal costs for his complicated and lengthy trial, ongoing household expenses, and the pain and humiliation suffered by his family. Because the charges against Ramírez were brought by an anonymous informer, he has no legal recourse to seek compensation for injury to his personal honor. Millán ends by citing earlier legal precedents in which full restitution of lost wages was paid in similar cases. The petition is witnessed and signed by Licenciado Ignacio Thomás de Mimiaga.
