There is a new age of philanthropy in Europe: a 50 billion-plus financial market. New wealth, growing social need, and innovations in finance are creating a revolution in how people give. In this detailed, how-to guide to researching philanthropy in Europe, Christopher Carnie maps these changes, focusing on major donors--people and foundations investing or donating 25,000 or mroe--to help readers find their way around this transforming sector. Looking across the continent, How Philanthropy Is Changing in Europe includes interviews with philanthropists, wealth managers, and fundraisers that shed light on key segments of European philanthropy, such as the role of women. Carnie also draws on new giving data to provide practical insider knowledge on how to access donors and donor information. Complete with a substantial appendix of sources, this book not only helps readers to understand the revolution in philanthropy in Europe, but also supplies crucial market information for anyone building their own fundraising or philanthropy strategies.

The Challenge of Rural Development in the EU Accession Countries

From the Abstract: This volume examines the reforms and policy changes necessary in the rural sectors or the ten countries that have started the accession process for eventual membership in the European Union (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia). The papers in this volume are selected from the presentations at the Third World Bank/FAO EU Accession Workshop held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on June 17-20, 2000, and are organized around four topics: (i) defining the concepts of rural development-options for EU accession candidate countries; (ii) rural development in the European Union; (iii) rural development in Central and Eastern Europe; and (iv) international experiences and the role of international organizations in supporting rural development in the EU accession candidate countries. This volume is intended for agricultural policy makers and government officials in the candidate countries, EU officials, World Bank and FAO staff, development scholars, and all others interested in the process of rural development in Central and Eastern Europe.

The role of ICMCC with regards to patient-related ICT has become obvious with the start of the Record Access Portal. The goal of this publication is to come forward with a recommendation to the WHO on Record Access. The subjects discussed in this publication are: HER and Record Access; Digital Homecare; Behavioral compunetics; The Paradigm Change Challenge towards Personal Health. This last subject has been handled by Prof. Dr. Bernd Blobel from the eHealth Competence Center (University of Regensburg Medical Center, Germany) jointly with the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) Working Groups “Electronic Health Records (EHR)” and “Security, Safety and Ethics (SSE)”.
