The ancient kingdom of Jālaka is without an heir. Its hope rests with the eldest Rajkumari, who must, in time, produce a successor to the throne. But what if the Rajkumari entertains hopes of ascending to the throne herself? When Rajkumari Chitra of Jālaka is banished from the kingdom due to a prophecy, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Masquerading as boys, she and her trusted companion Saubha join a gurukul to get trained on statecraft and warfare. Here, she competes with the students to win the legendary Varunāstra. Chitra’s joy, however, is short-lived when her guru is brutally murdered by assassins from Dvipura. A grief-stricken Chitra along with an army of gurukul st...
The tumour microenvironment is increasingly recognized as an important contributor to cancer progression and treatment. However, most cancer studies continue to be performed in 2D tissue culture dishes that do not capture the characteristics of the tumour niche. This book provides an introduction to the rich chemical, topographical, and mechanical cues in the tumour microenvironment and then introduces readers to bioengineering strategies, including scaffold design and synthesis, chemical signalling and delivery, and co-culture, microfluidics, and organ-on-a-chip tools that can be used to mimic tumour microenvironment features. This book also includes discussion of emerging imaging methods compatible with tumour microenvironment mimicking biomaterials and discusses applications of such models in immuno-oncology, metastasis, and drug screening. Edited by two leaders in the field, this book will appeal to graduate students and researchers working in biomaterials science, chemical and biomedical engineering departments.

Biomaterials for Precision Cancer Medicine bridges the gap between materials science and medicine, providing insights into novel biomaterial-based treatments for cancer. The book describes the various smart biomaterial-based treatments available, reviewing how they can be designed to target specific tumor types, adapt to changes in the cell microenvironment and offer smart, personalized therapy for different cancer variants, especially those which are drug-resistant. The book provides a materials-focused look at precision cancer medicine, and is thus useful to materials scientists, biomedical engineers, and biomedical scientists – including cancer and genetic specialists – with an interest in alternative cancer therapies. - Reviews the state-of-the-art in precision and translational medicine, setting the scene for the introduction of alternative biomaterial-based therapies - Covers a range of biomaterials for personalized cancer treatment, including polymer-protein conjugates, smart nanoparticles, metal compounds, and more - Addresses preclinical assessment, health risks, challenges and future perspective of precision anti-cancer biomaterials
There have been great advances in biomedical imaging techniques in recent years and they are becoming prominent in supramolecular chemistry. This book will clarify the current understanding of these techniques.

This book provides a comprehensive exploration of computational intelligence techniques and their applications, offering valuable insights into advanced information processing, machine learning concepts, and their impact on agile manufacturing systems. Computational Intelligence presents a new concept for advanced information processing. Computational Intelligence (CI) is the principle, architecture, implementation, and growth of machine learning concepts that are physiologically and semantically inspired. Computational Intelligence methods aim to develop an approach to evaluating and creating flexible processing of human information, such as sensing, understanding, learning, recognizing, an...
Chromic or colour related phenomena are produced in response to a chemical or physical stimulus. This new edition will update the information on all those areas where chemicals or materials interact with light to produce colour, a colour change, or luminescence especially in the imaging, analysis, lighting and display areas. The book has been restructured to show greater emphasis on applications where 'coloured' compounds are used to transfer energy or manipulate light in some way therefore reducing the details on classical dyes and pigments. In the past eight years, since the previous edition, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of papers and reviews being produced reflecting the growth of interest in this area. This ongoing research interest is matched by a large number of new technological applications gaining commercial value covering e.g. biomedical areas, energy, data storage, physical colour, bio-inspired materials and photonics. This book appeals to industrial chemists, professionals, postgraduates and as high level recommended reading for colour technology courses.
This book introduces the essential areas of skin anatomy and the wound healing process, how this can be disrupted by various pathologies and proceeds to outline how biomaterials and devices for dermal drug delivery (including controlled delivery via stimuli-responsive devices) can be utilised in effective wound management.
