Lectures on Numerical Radius Inequalities

Lectures on Numerical Radius Inequalities

This book is a self-contained advanced monograph on inequalities involving the numerical radius of bounded linear operators acting on complex Hilbert spaces. The study of numerical range and numerical radius has a long and distinguished history starting from the Rayleigh quotients used in the 19th century to nowadays applications in quantum information theory and quantum computing. This monograph is intended for use by both researchers and graduate students of mathematics, physics, and engineering who have a basic background in functional analysis and operator theory. The book provides several challenging problems and detailed arguments for the majority of the results. Each chapter ends with some notes about historical views or further extensions of the topics. It contains a bibliography of about 180 items, so it can be used as a reference book including many classical and modern numerical radius inequalities.

Birkhoff-James Orthogonality and Geometry of Operator Spaces

This book provides an insight into the geometric aspects of the spaces of operators studied by using the notion of BirkhoffJames orthogonality. It studies the norm attainment set of an operator and its properties, the notion of which plays a very important role in the characterization of B-J orthogonality of operators. The structure of the norm attainment set is studied for Hilbert space operators and is yet to be understood completely for operators between Banach spaces. The book explores the interrelation between B-J orthogonality in the ground space and in the space of operators in its fullest generality. The book further explores the concept of approximate B-J orthogonality and investigated its geometry both in the ground space as well as in the space of operators. It highlights important geometric properties like smoothness and k-smoothness of bounded linear operators, extreme contractions and symmetricity of bounded linear operators defined between Hilbert spaces as well as Banach spaces.

This volume presents original research contributed to the 3rd Annual International Conference on Computational Mathematics and Computational Geometry (CMCGS 2014), organized and administered by Global Science and Technology Forum (GSTF). Computational Mathematics and Computational Geometry are closely related subjects, but are often studied by separate communities and published in different venues. This volume is unique in its combination of these topics. After the conference, which took place in Singapore, selected contributions chosen for this volume and peer-reviewed. The section on Computational Mathematics contains papers that are concerned with developing new and efficient numerical al...

Set Theory

What is a number? What is infinity? What is continuity? What is order? Answers to these fundamental questions obtained by late nineteenth-century mathematicians such as Dedekind and Cantor gave birth to set theory. This textbook presents classical set theory in an intuitive but concrete manner. To allow flexibility of topic selection in courses, the book is organized into four relatively independent parts with distinct mathematical flavors. Part I begins with the Dedekind–Peano axioms and ends with the construction of the real numbers. The core Cantor–Dedekind theory of cardinals, orders, and ordinals appears in Part II. Part III focuses on the real continuum. Finally, foundational issue...

Ulam Type Stability

This book is an outcome of two Conferences on Ulam Type Stability (CUTS) organized in 2016 (July 4-9, Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and in 2018 (October 8-13, 2018, Timisoara, Romania). It presents up-to-date insightful perspective and very resent research results on Ulam type stability of various classes of linear and nonlinear operators; in particular on the stability of many functional equations in a single and several variables (also in the lattice environments, Orlicz spaces, quasi-b-Banach spaces, and 2-Banach spaces) and some orthogonality relations (e.g., of Birkhoff–James). A variety of approaches are presented, but a particular emphasis is given to that of fixed points, with some new fix...
