The Inheritance

Elizabeth A. Povinelli’s inheritance was passed down not through blood or soil but through a framed map of Trentino, Alto Adige—the region where family's ancestral alpine village is found. Far more than a map hanging above the family television, the image featured colors and lines that held in place the memories and values fueling the Povinelli family's fraught relationships with the village and with each other. In her graphic memoir The Inheritance, Povinelli explores the events, traumas, and powers that divide and define our individual and collective pasts and futures. Weaving together stories of her grandparents' flight from their village in the early twentieth century to the fortunes...

RNA Diseases in Humans – From Fundamental Research to Therapeutic Applications

This Research Topic addresses the human diseases caused by a malfunction of the RNA metabolism. We aim at strengthening the link between fundamental research and therapeutic applications. In eukaryotes, RNA is transcribed from genomic DNA. RNA molecules undergo multiple post-transcriptional processes such as splicing, editing, modification, translation, and degradation. A defect, mis-regulation, or malfunction of these processes often results in diseases in humans, referred to as 'RNA diseases'. There is an increasing number of studies focused on RNA diseases, which are aimed at uncovering the fundamental molecular mechanisms at play in order to develop therapeutic approaches.

A higher purpose is not simply about profit. Symbolising the motivations of our actions and efforts, it reflects something much more aspirational and contributes to our global society. This open access book offers novel solutions to ensure employees support a wider organizational meaning whilst guaranteeing that the company benefits from the employee’s individual sense of purpose. Advocating a shift from previous models and theories, this book contributes to debate and offers insight for both scholars and practitioners. The chapters bring together academic rigour and practical models to help readers distinguish between the fads and influential strategies. Exploring the development of purpose at each level of business, from strategy and leadership to communication, this book avoids theoretical jargon and provides new approaches to building sustainable purpose-driven organizations. This is an Open Access book sponsored by DPMC Spain, UIC Barcelona and Corporate Excellence - Centre for Reputation Leadership

AGENDA occupies the territory between a monograph, diary, and a collection of essays, interviews, and conversations, produced by JDS Architects with a wide range of contributors and collaborators. Starting from the belief that an agenda is not simply an expression of individual intentions, but rather a vector for the production of new realities, AGENDA addresses the need for architecture to transform itself in an era of ecological and economic crisis. Change, the buzzword of the last U.S. presidential campaign, is indeed the order of the day, and AGENDA explores exactly what kind of change will be needed if architects are to assume a political and social agency in this new landscape. The book seeks to define not only the work of JDS Architects, but also the challenges and situations confronting young architectural practices emerging at a time of crisis. An ambitious attempt to describe the conditions within which architecture is produced today.
