Este e-book sobre a presença das mulheres na mídia vem na sequência de uma história de luta protagonizada por muitos países e que começou a ser movimentada na Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) na segunda metade do século passado. O grande marco foi a IV Conferência Mundial sobre a Mulher realizada em 1995 em Pequim, China. A primeira Conferência Mundial sobre as Mulheres, por exemplo, aconteceu em 1975, na cidade do México, e contou com a participação de 133 Estados-Membros da ONU. Houve uma crescente participação dos Estados-Membros nas duas conferências seguintes, Dinamarca (1980) e Quênia (1985), quando se compreendeu que a situação das mulheres exigia alterações profundas e estruturais nos países. Ao longo da década de 1990, eventos sobre direitos humanos, desenvolvimento sustentável e questões demográficas também contribuíram para fundamentar politicamente a noção de igualdade de gênero.

War is often described as an extension of politics by violent means. With contributions from twenty-eight eminent historians, Volume 2 of The Cambridge History of the Second World War examines the relationship between ideology and politics in the war's origins, dynamics and consequences. Part I examines the ideologies of the combatants and shows how the war can be understood as a struggle of words, ideas and values with the rival powers expressing divergent claims to justice and controlling news from the front in order to sustain moral and influence international opinion. Part II looks at politics from the perspective of pre-war and wartime diplomacy as well as examining the way in which neutrals were treated and behaved. The volume concludes by assessing the impact of states, politics and ideology on the fate of individuals as occupied and liberated peoples, collaborators and resistors, and as British and French colonial subjects.
Athens, Etruria, and the Many Lives of Greek Figured Pottery
A lucrative trade in Athenian pottery flourished from the early sixth until the late fifth century B.C.E., finding an eager market in Etruria. Most studies of these painted vases focus on the artistry and worldview of the Greeks who made them, but Sheramy D. Bundrick shifts attention to their Etruscan customers, ancient trade networks, and archaeological contexts. Thousands of Greek painted vases have emerged from excavations of tombs, sanctuaries, and settlements throughout Etruria, from southern coastal centers to northern communities in the Po Valley. Using documented archaeological assemblages, especially from tombs in southern Etruria, Bundrick challenges the widely held assumption that Etruscans were hellenized through Greek imports. She marshals evidence to show that Etruscan consumers purposefully selected figured pottery that harmonized with their own local needs and customs, so much so that the vases are better described as etruscanized. Athenian ceramic workers, she contends, learned from traders which shapes and imagery sold best to the Etruscans and employed a variety of strategies to maximize artistry, output, and profit.

What forces shaped the twentieth-century world? Capitalism and communism are usually seen as engaged in a fight-to-the-death during the Cold War. With the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party aimed to end capitalism.
