The eighteen articles in this book present fresh looks at the meaning of politics, praxis, labour, dialectics and modernity in the work of Czech philosopher Karel Kosík, best known for his book Dialectics of the Concrete.
Phenomenology in a Pluralistic Context contains papers selected from three years of meetings of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP). The essays are representative of the most current thinking among North American philosophers who have been influenced by the phenomenological movement. A majority of the selections reveals a considerable mutual influence between phenomenology and other philosophical currents. Special emphasis is given to issues in social and political theory; the philosophy of medicine, of art, of language, and of religion; phenomenology's relationship to Kantianism and to Marxism; and the figures of Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, and Heidegger.
Kosik writes that the history of a text is in a certain sense the history of its interpretations. In the fifteen years that have passed since the fust (Czech) edition of his Dialectics of the Concrete, this book has been widely read and interpreted throughout Europe, in diverse centers of scholarship as well as in private studies. Cartea The Hero Paradigm in Fantasy Novels este una interdisciplinară și se înscrie în perimetrul studiilor culturale literare, cu descinderi în mitologie, antropologie culturală, şi studiile filmului. Tipologia eroului este analizată aşa cum apare în mitologie şi basm, înainte de a fi investigate romanele fantastice scrise de J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis și J.K. Rowling, romane de secol XX ale căror rădăcini se regăsesc în cele două genuri precedente ale modului literaturii fantastice. Aceleaşi romane au fost ecranizate, trecând din modul lecturii în cel al vizualului şi chiar în cel al virtualului (al jocurilor video/pe computer).
