This open access book gives insights into feminist methodologies in theory and practice. By foregrounding the experiential and embodied nature of doing feminist research, this book offers valuable tools for feminist research as a continuous praxis. Emerging from a rich collective learning process, the collection offers in-depth reflections on how feminists shape research questions, understand positionality, share research results beyond academe and produce feminist intersectional knowledges. This book reveals how the authors navigate theory and practice, candidly exploring the difficulty of producing knowledge on the edge of academia and activism. From different points of view, places and di...
The Politics of Silence, Voice and the In-Between: Exploring Gender, Race and Insecurity from the Margins seeks to dismantle the deficit discourses generated through research about people as agency-less and, by extension, objects of study. The book argues that, regardless of marginalisation, people create spaces of liminality where they seek control over their lives by navigating the structures that exclude them. Challenging the false binary of silence as violence and voice as power, the book introduces the idea of an in-between ‘liminal space’ which is created by people to navigate conditions of oppression and move towards a politically stable and inclusive world. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of gender studies, international development, peace and conflict studies, politics and international relations, sociology and media studies. It will be an important resource for courses incorporating gender, feminist and postcolonial perspectives.
This book envisages a different form of our economies where care work and care-full relationships are central to social and cultural life. It sets out a feminist vision of a caring economy and asks what needs to change economically and ecologically in our conceptual approaches and our daily lives as we learn to care for each other and non-human others. Bringing together authors from 11 countries (also representing institutions from 8 countries), this edited collection sets out the challenges for gender aware economies based on an ethics of care for people and the environment in an original and engaging way. The book aims to break down the assumed inseparability of economic growth and social ...
In/Visibility is unequally distributed in society and closely related to the distribution of power and privilege. Using images and narratives to mobilize is part of political strategies. The relationship of in/visibility and migration is the guiding question for this edited volume. The chapters discuss multidisciplinary perspectives and factors that contribute to the visibility of forced migration beyond a policy-centered discourse. They focus on the voices and agency of refugees in different countries and contexts. By including research, practical experiences and artistic methods, the volume will be of interest to readers from different academic disciplines and the arts as well as to practitioners.

Three fundamental issues have developed with the inception and implementation of Operation Flood. Is this program equitable for all parties concerned? Can this program be replicated in other settings? And, will this project be self-sustaining? In Dairy Aid and Development the authors address these questions and review the origins and impact of Operation Flood, basic policy choices, and analyze the rural impact. With its interdisciplinary perspective and emphases on long-term viability, replicability, and independence, Dairy Aid and Development examines this major organizational achievement and process of social and economic change. "A rich case study of internationally supported development programmes that could find a useful place in many postgraduate development courses, as well as being required reading for researchers interested in Indian development policy and food aid more generally." --Development and Change

Across the globe, people are challenging the agro-industrial food system and its exploitation of people and resources, reduction of local food varieties, and negative health consequences. In this collection leading international anthropologists explore food activism across the globe to show how people speak to, negotiate, or cope with power through food. Who are the actors of food activism and what forms of agency do they enact? What kinds of economy, exchanges, and market relations do they practice and promote? How are they organized and what are their scales of political action and power relations? Each chapter explores why and how people choose food as a means of forging social and econom...
