Methodius of Olympus: de Lepra
Der Sammelband untersucht den "Text", den "Prätext" und "Kontexte" von Methodius' Schrift De lepra aus dem 3./4. Jahrhundert. Darin wird der im alttestamentlichen Buch Levitikus (Lev 13) geschilderte Aussatz christlich-allegorisch ausgelegt. Nach der Untersuchung der griechisch-slavischen Überlieferungsgeschichte des Textes und einer Analyse der darin vorliegenden Intertextualitäten widmet sich der Band Methodius' Prätext, i.e. Levitikus 13 in der Fassung der Septuaginta. Daraufhin werden verschiedene Kontexte von Methodius' De lepra in den Blick genommen: die rabbinische Rezeption von Lev 13, die medizinhistorischen Hintergründe des vielgestaltigen "Aussatzes" in der Spätantike und die Realien der spätantiken Textilherstellung, sowie die Methodius-Rezeption in der Spätantike und im Mittelalter anhand der Methodius zugeschriebenen Apokalypse des Pseudo-Methodius. Abgeschlossen wird der Band mit einem Beitrag zur aktuellen Diskussion um die Editionspraxis antiker Texte im 21. Jahrhundert zwischen Wissenschaft und Verlagswesen. Der Sammelband ergänzt den parallel erscheinenden Editionsband (Nr.##) und soll so dem besseren inhaltlichen Verständnis von De lepra dienen.

Wie keine andere Berufsgruppe waren Mediziner in die nationalsozialistische Rassen- und Vernichtungspolitik involviert. So beteiligten sich Ärzte als Kliniker, Wissenschaftler und Gutachter an Zwangssterilisationen, Krankenmorden (NS-"Euthanasie") und Menschenversuchen in den Konzentrationslagern. Ärzte wirkten aktiv und fast ausnahmslos freiwillig mit am Holocaust und am Völkermord an Sinti und Roma. Im Zentrum des Bandes steht die Frage, wie Ärzte und auch Ärztinnen im "Dritten Reich" zu Tätern wurden. Thematisiert wird zudem die bis heute reichende Rezeptionsgeschichte dieser unheilvollen Geschehnisse. Die Autorinnen und Autoren des Bandes verwenden mentalitäts-, kultur- und ideengeschichtliche Ansätze; hinzu kommen sozialpsychologische Deutungsversuche und (gruppen)biografische Analysen.

Greater Than the Parts
The history of orthodox biomedicine in the twentieth century is usually depicted as one of icreasing reductionism and dependence on laboratory sciences and technology. Holism today is commonly regarded as an alternative to regular healing and a reaction to it. In fact, in the interwar years, clinicians and basic scientists in Europe and North America responded to what they perceived as the increasing reductionism, routinizing and mechanization of the biomedical sciences and clinical practice by creating holistic models of the body's activities and models of healing based the whole, individual sufferer. Holistic responses were also visible in public health and epidemiology. The essays collected here explore this previously neglected area. They show how the holistic turn in orthodox medicine in the interwar years was a reaction to the scietific reductionism and the specialization and division of labor and medicine. In addition, all show how this movement was part of a more general response to modernity itself, political, idealogical and cultural upheaval of the years between the war
