Forest Certification: A Policy Perspective
This paper analyses the development of certification programmes in three countries (Indonesia, Canada and Sweden) using the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) as a theoretical reference point. The ACF is an actor-based framework for analysing policy processes and has not previously been applied in a developing country. Actors in the three countries took different approaches to certification. Reconsidering Policy
For nation-states, the contexts for developing and implementing policy have become more complex and demanding. Yet policy studies have not fully responded to the challenges and opportunities represented by these developments. Governance literature has drawn attention to a globalising and network-based policy world, but politics and the role of the state have been de-emphasised. This book addresses this imbalance by reconsidering traditional policy-analytic concepts, and re-developing and extending new ones, in a melded approach defined as systemic institutionalism. This links policy with governance and the state and suggests how real-world issues might be substantively addressed.

Environmental and Forest Governance
This edited volume comprises contributions to the international conference on the “Scientific Framework of Environmental and Forest Governance – The role of discourses and expertise” which was organised by the Chair of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy of the Georg-August-University in Göttingen/Germany in August 2007. It accounts for the increasing attention of the governance concept in environmental and forest policy research. The volume in detail addresses the role of discourses and expertise within the overall conceptual framework of governance, both from a theoretical and empirical point of view in environmental and forest related policies.
