This book integrates discoveries from recent years to show the diversity of molecular mechanisms that contribute to memory consolidation, reconsolidation, extinction, and forgetting. It provides a special focus on the processes that govern functional and structural plasticity of dendritic spines. In nine chapters, new and important ideas related to learning and memory processes will be presented. Themes discussed include the role of AMPA receptors in memory, two signalling cascades involved in local spine remodelling and memory, the role of extracellular matrix proteins in memory, the regulation of gene expression and protein translation, and mechanisms of retrieval-induced memory modulation and forgetting. We believe that the study of these topics represents a great step toward understanding the complexity of the brain and the processes it governs.

Metabolic Control of Brain Homeostasis

Brain function is under metabolic control, which in turn determines the equilibrium of homeostatic systems that affect neuronal and glial networks on the molecular, cellular, and systems levels. The collection of articles ranges from molecules and mechanisms involved in regulating homeostasis and neuronal excitability to therapeutic mechanisms tailored to restore homeostatic function. It also features neurological diseases and novel treatment approaches that are based on metabolic and homeostatic interventions. Together, the collection of articles outlines novel strategies to restore brain function in neurology and highlights limitations of conventional pharmacological approaches. We suggest that restoration of molecular and biochemical networks could lead to a new era of therapeutic opportunities.

A Journey Through Life and History

“...an evocative autobiographical exploration of personal growth, resilience, and cultural identity…a compelling read for those interested in autobiographical tales that blend historical context with personal reflection.” – Readers Favorite Radomysl Twardowski's moving story of growing up in post-war Poland begins with early memories of walks around Krakow with his beloved Grandfather Karol. As it becomes clear to the young Rado that Poland's history is rooted in Christianity, the solemn grandeur and religious atmosphere of places like Wawel Cathedral and other churches begin to have a profound impact on him. He would later be drawn to SSPX and Latin Mass, a subject of debate in the ...
