Kate's War
Twenty-year-old Kate is poised to launch into a long-anticipated life of independence when Britain declares war in 1939. James Ray (ca. 1750-1816) lived in North Carolina and married Jane "Jinnit" Allison (ca. 1750-1849). Descendants lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Illinois, Georgia, Oklahoma, Colorado, Alabama, and elsewhere.

Mothers and mothering have been a longtime focus of research and study in various academic disciplines, and common topics of interest in mainstream press and popular culture, yet the experiences of mothers and mothering in the area of sport have been less explored. This innovative, interdisciplinary collection provides a space for exploration of the complex dimensions of intersections between mothers, mothering, and sport, as athletes, players, participants, parents and discursive figures. Topics discussed are wide-ranging, from motherwork in sport, mothers as athletes, the athlete mother in sports, representations and expectations of motherhood and health, legal regulation of sports and parenting, as well as sexuality and gender in sports and gaming.
Allison Connections
John Allison Sr. (d.1795/1796) immigrated (possibly from Ireland) to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania between 1720 and 1729. He married Martha Hamilton, and before 1755 they moved to Orange County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida and elsewhere.
South Carolina Garick/Garrick Family Roots, 1752-1995
George Ulrich Gerich (Garick) arrived in America at the Port of Charleston, South Carolina on the ship Upton 15 September 1752. According to family tradition, George Ulrich came from Hamburg, Germany, sailing from Rotterdam, Holland. He had four children: John Andrew, Anna Maria, Maria Margarita, and George Henry. The descendants of the two sons are traced for 12 generations.
