How can classroom teachers effectively differentiate learning and teaching programs to provide for the needs of every student in their class? This best-selling text begins by asking "Why include all students?" in regular classrooms and then shows how this can be done. It outlines the philosophy of inclusive education and focuses on the use of individualised planning and effective teaching practices to maximise learning outcomes within positive and productive environments. Vignettes and narratives provide real-life examples that help put the theory in context. This fifth edition includes broader coverage of issues to do with diversity and individual differences, particularly cultural and multicultural inclusion, linguistic diversity and giftedness. There is more throughout on the universal design for learning framework and on partnerships with families, while new pedagogical features encourage readers to reflect. Throughout, it emphasises a practical, research-based approach to teaching that can be applied to support students with a range of differences and additional needs.

In 1905 Georgia travelled to Chicago to study painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1907 she enrolled at the Art Students’ League in New York City, where she studied with William Merritt Chase. During her time in New York she became familiar with the 291 Gallery owned by her future husband, photographer Alfred Stieglitz. In 1912, she and her sisters studied at university with Alon Bement, who employed a somewhat revolutionary method in art instruction originally conceived by Arthur Wesley Dow. In Bement’s class, the students did not mechanically copy nature, but instead were taught the principles of design using geometric shapes. They worked at exercises that included dividing a s...

The life story of the bohemian socialite who rebelled against her famous family and became a renowned art collector. Peggy Guggenheim was the ultimate self-invented woman, a cultural mover and shaker who broke away from her poor-little-rich-girl origins to shape a life for herself as the enfant terrible of the art world. Her visionary Art of This Century gallery in New York, which brought together the European surrealist artists with the American abstract expressionists, was an epoch-shaking “happening” at the center of its time. In Mistress of Modernism, Mary V. Dearborn draws upon her unprecedented access to the Guggenheim family, friends, and papers to craft a “thorough biography . ...

This beautiful book is a collection of Georgia O'Keeffe's major drawings, done between 1915 and 1963. Each drawing is accompanied by the artist's comments, usually on how, why, where, or when she made the drawing. The book was originally published in 1974 in a signed, limited edition of one hundred copies, which has since become a collectors' item. O'Keeffe's text was her first writing intended for book publication. This new edition, including an updated bibliography, is intended, in Doris Bry's words, as "a tribute to O'Keeffe's drawings, an appreciation of her use of the written word, and a proof that a beautifully designed and printed book can be made available to a wide public at an affordable cost."
