Probably the first Douglas family in America was Edward Douglas who arrived before 1643 and lived in Northampton and Accomack Counties, Virginia. His descendant, Edward IV, married Sarah George and they migrated to Sumner County, Tennessee where they reared nine children. Descendants and relatives lived in Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri and throughout the South.
