Based on accessible information, it is the absolute truth that District Judge Ayers of Bedford County Court in Bedfordshire, England, could not spell the word, “emphasise” and/or did not know the meaning and correct grammatical employment of the words “emphasis” and “will.” A mistake is not impossible, but it should be less likely in a proof-read and approved judgment. A mistake should also be inversely proportional to rank and experience. “The report, by the OECD warns that the UK needs to take significant action to boost the basic skills of the nation’s young people. The 460-page study is based on the first-ever survey of the literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving at work ...

Deviance and Social Control in Sport

"The world of sport offers a deep - and often-overlooked - source for the study of deviance and its development. Deviance and Social Control in Sport challenges preconceived understandings regarding the relationship of deviance and sport and offers a conceptual framework for future work in a variety of sociological subfields." "Drawing on their research in criminology and deviance in the discipline of sociology, Michael Atkinson and Kevin Young provide a textured understanding of sport-related deviance through the application of various approaches to deviance in a sport context. Using extended case studies, the authors examine the subject of deviance through examples that are popular, understudied, or emerging." "The text explains how forms of wanted and unwanted rule violation are produced by and mediated through social contexts in and around sport. By considering networks of social relationships and how they produce, define, and police rule violation and rule violators, Deviance and Social Control in Sport offers a nuanced and integrated explanation of sport deviance that accounts for the behaviors and practices of both individuals and teams."--BOOK JACKET.

Based on his own tangled experiences, Kevin Atkinson knows no boundaries with this excruciatingly real, raw, vulgar, and vulnerable collection of poetry. Readers will find the emotionally-entrenched journey easy to relate to and find comfort in, realizing that, through the array of highs and lows that accompany lust, love, loss, and life, there is something beautiful blooming when you finally find yourself.

The Singer Story

The Singer Story

Here is the definitive history of one of Britain's oldest, most important and influential car manufacturers. George Singer started building bicycles in Coventry in 1874 and by 1905 his company was building cars and motorcycles too. Later the company would concentrate on the manufacture of cars and commercial vehicles, bringing great success in sales and motorsport until, in the early 1950s, things began to go wrong. By 1955 Singer was absorbed into the Rootes Group and slowly lost its distinctive identity. In 1970 the last car to carry a Singer badge was built - marking the end of the great Coventry marque and hammering another nail into the coffin of Britain's once great motor industry. Thoroughly researched and with nearly 300 photos this is an important piece of automotive history.
