The American Civil War is often regarded as a "low-rape" war, due to gentlemanly "restraint." Nearly thirty Union soldiers were executed for the crime. As a result, rape is perceived to have been dealt with harshly. On the surface, the numbers reflect the view that rape was indeed far from widespread. In reality, few soldiers received harsh punishment for a crime that was considered a capital offense in the nineteenth century. Through the extensive use of primary sources, Kim Murphy exposes the misrepresentations of the topic of rape during the war. Not only were women raped during times of battle, but those who bravely stepped forward to name their attackers were interrogated in the justice system, often by their assailants. Courts-martial revolved around a woman's consent and her degree of resistance against a man's force. Poor and black women frequently had their reputations called into question. For far too long, women's claims have been dismissed as hearsay and propaganda. Behind the brother-against-brother war lurks the hidden war of brother against sister.

The use of electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation has grown significantly in recent years. This valuable technique enables the assessment of objects by observing the electromagnetic response to electric currents and/or magnetic fields introduced within them. This book presents the proceedings of the 23rd International Workshop on Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE2018), held in Detroit, Michigan, USA, from 9 - 13 September 2018. The workshop provides an international forum for the exchange of information on state-of-the-art technologies and development in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation, and the 19 papers presented here cover topics including sensors; modeling; signal processing; inverse problems; materials state awareness and characterization; damage diagnosis and prognosis; biomedical applications; and innovative industrial applications of eNDE. Providing a comprehensive overview of current theoretical and applied research into electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation (eNDE) methods, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the non-destructive evaluation of objects, whatever their field.

PI Kim Murphy's staycation is rudely interrupted by a dead body that refuses to stay put... Too broke to go on a real vacation, Kim's plans include napping, sunbathing, and eating lots of junk food while indulging in a few romance books. Her plans certainly do not include anything that has to do with a medical examiner...or so she thought. Kim never imagined she'd have to put a watch detail on a corpse so it didn't disappear... When one of Kim's besties discovers a body in the back yard, they follow procedure and call the authorities. But by the time police arrive, the cadaver is missing, making both Kim and her friend look like "overreacting, distraught females." When Kim's on-again-off-again boyfriend, officer Grant Tompkins, arrests a suspect for the murder, it might just be the end of their sort-of relationship... Of course Kim wants the killer behind bars, but not if she's sure Grant has arrested the wrong person. Desperate to find the real criminal, Kim ignores the law-and her own common sense-to track down a calculating murderer whose new plans may include sending Kim on a permanent vacation. If Kim isn't careful, the next disappearing body may be her own...
