You load your virtual shopping cart, hand over your credit card information, and two short days later, a package appears on your doorstep. What sort of magic is this? Dark magic, according to Paul Juhasz' account of his time spent working for the world's biggest retailer. Fulfillment: Diary of a Warehouse Picker chronicles Juhasz' one-hundred and eighty days of lunacy, hilarity, and the search for humanity inside the mammoth machine that changed retail history and the world economy forever. In turns profane, funny, heartbreaking and sobering, this book is a must-read for anyone who's ever hit that magical "buy" button.
Technological advances, together with a better understanding of the molecular biology of infectious microorganisms, are creating exciting possibilities for a new generation of replicating vaccines. Historically, live vaccines have been either directly derived from a natural source or attenuated by empirical approaches using serial passages and host cell adaptation. Currently, we are witnessing a quantum leap in our technological capabilities to specifically modify the genetic make-up of viruses and bacteria, making it possible to generate improved live vaccines and to develop completely new types of replicating vaccines, such as vectored vaccines, single-round infectious vaccines and replicon vaccines. This book highlights some of the most exciting recent developments towards a new generation of replicating vaccines.
Unwilling on conscientious grounds to submit to the religious tests imposed by the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the English and Welsh Dissenters of the second half of the seventeenth century established academies in which their young men, many of them destined for the ministry, might receive a higher education. From the eighteenth century onwards, theological colleges devoted exclusively to ministerial education were founded, while in Scotland historically, and in England and Wales over the past 120 years, freestanding university faculties of divinity/theology have provided theological education to ordinands and others. These diverse educational contexts are all represented in this ...

The purpose of this volume and of the other volumes in the same series is to provide a collection of surveys that allows the reader to learn the important aspects of William Thurston’s heritage. Thurston’s ideas have altered the course of twentieth century mathematics, and they continue to have a significant influence on succeeding generations of mathematicians. The topics covered in the present volume include com-plex hyperbolic Kleinian groups, Möbius structures, hyperbolic ends, cone 3-manifolds, Thurston’s norm, surgeries in representation varieties, triangulations, spaces of polygo-nal decompositions and of singular flat structures on surfaces, combination theorems in the theories of Kleinian groups, hyperbolic groups and holomorphic dynamics, the dynamics and iteration of rational maps, automatic groups, and the combinatorics of right-angled Artin groups.
