The FRBR Family of Conceptual Models
Since 1998 when FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) was first published by IFLA, the effort to develop and apply FRBR has been extended in many innovative and experimental directions. Papers in this volume explain and expand upon the extended family of FRBR models including Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD), Functional Requirements for Subject Authority Data (FRSAD), and the object-oriented version of FRBR known as FRBRoo. Readers will learn about dialogues between the FRBR Family and other modeling technologies, specific implementations and extensions of FRBR in retrieval systems, catalog codes employing FRBR, a wide variety of research that uses the FRBR model, and approaches to using FRBR for the Semantic Web. Librarians of all stripes as well as library and information science students and researchers can use this volume to bring their knowledge of the FRBR model and its implementation up to date. Early Printed Narrative Literature in Western Europe
The essays in this volume are concerned with early printed narrative texts in Western Europe. The aim of this book is to consider to what extent the shift from hand-written to printed books left its mark on narrative literature in a number of vernacular languages. Did the advent of printing bring about changes in the corpus of narrative texts when compared with the corpus extant in manuscript copies? Did narrative texts that already existed in manuscript form undergo significant modifications when they began to be printed? How did this crucial media development affect the nature of these narratives? Which strategies did early printers develop to make their texts commercially attractive? Which social classes were the target audiences for their editions? Around half of the articles focus on developments in the history of early printed narrative texts, others discuss publication strategies. This book provides an impetus for cross-linguistic research. It invites scholars from various disciplines to get involved in an international conversation about fifteenth- and sixteenth-century narrative literature.
Theological Libraries and Library Associations in Europe
During the past 50 years, theological libraries have confronted secularisation and religious pluralism, along with revolutionary technological developments that brought not only significant challenges but also unexpected opportunities to adopt new instruments for the transfer of knowledge through the automation and computerisation of libraries. This book shows how European theological libraries tackled these challenges; how they survived by redefining their task, by participating in the renewal of scholarly librarianship, and by networking internationally. Since 1972, BETH, the Association of European Theological Libraries, has stimulated this process by enabling contacts among a growing number of national library associations all over Europe.
Bridal-quest Epics in Medieval Germany
König Rother, Salman und Morolf, the Münchner Oswald and Grauer Rock (otherwise known as Orendel) have had a troubled position in the literary history of medieval Germany. Forced into a normative generic framework as either 'Minstrel Epic' (Spielmannsepik) or 'Bridal-quest Epic' (Brautwerbungsepik), these texts have been viewed conventionally according to an essentially teleological classification or a schematic ideal. Bowden challenges the premises of such a view with a detailed history of the textual scholarship, and revaluates these so called 'Bridal quests' on their own terms, offering detailed and suggestive readings of each work without the distortions or limitations inherent in the traditional interpretative model. Qualität in der Inhaltserschließung
Der 70. Band der BIPRA-Reihe beschäftigt sich mit der Qualität in der Inhaltserschließung im Kontext etablierter Verfahren und technologischer Innovationen.
