The Eighth International Conference on Miniaturized Systems in Chemistry and Life Science - B5Tas 2004 - is an annual meeting focusing on the research, development and application of miniaturized technologies and methodologies in chemistry and life science. The conference is celebrating its tenth anniversary after the first workshop at the University of Twente, The Netherlands in 1994. This research field is rapidly developing and changing towards a domain where core competence areas such as microfluidics, micro- and nanotechnology, materials science, chemistry, biology, and medicine are melting together to a truly interdisciplinary meeting place. This volume is the first in a two volume set, a valuable reference collection to all working in this field.
Although chemical engineering principles are at the heart of solid state process technology, until now no reference volume addressing this relationship was available. This is the first book of its kind to tie fundamental engineering concepts to solid state process technology. Discussing the basic concepts involved--liquid-phase epitaxy, physical and chemical vapor deposition, diffusion and oxidation in silicon, resists in microlithography, etc.--this volume will be particularly useful in chemical engineering courses. It offers a framework within which specialized courses in microelectronics processing can be organized. In addition, it serves as a valuable reference source for all industrial engineers working with the individual process steps covered.

With insights and examples from designers at publications from Nature to the New York Times, an essential guide to creating figures and presentations. In this short handbook, award-winning science communicator Felice C. Frankel offers a quick guide for scientists and engineers who want to share—and better understand—their research by designing compelling graphics for journal submissions, grant applications, presentations, and posters. Like all the books in the Visual Elements series, this handbook is also a training tool for researchers. Distilling her celebrated books and courses to the essentials, Frankel shows scientists and engineers, from students to primary investigators, the impor...
Continuous manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, including aspects of modern process development is highlighted in this book with both the ‘why’ and the ‘how’, emphasizing process modeling and process analytical technologies. Presenting specific case studies and drawing upon extensive experience from industry and academic opinion leaders, this book focuses on the practical aspects of continuous manufacturing. It gives the readers the strategic perspective and technical depth needed to adopt and implement these technologies, where appropriate, in order to gain the competitive edge in speed, agility, and reliability. Features: Discusses scientific solutions and process analytical technolog...
