The Compendium of Orchid Genera is the most comprehensive and exquisitely illustrated description of all the 744 currently recognized ? orchid genera to date. Each concise entry provide details of nomenclature, classification, original publication, etymology and geographic range, along with a brief description and color images of representative flowers. Every genus has its type species or lectotype listed, the number of species credited to the genus, and the species distribution.The synonyms for each genus, both validly published and invalidly published according to the standards of the International Code of Nomenclature, as well as those that have variant spellings are listed. In all, the descriptions for more than 3000 orchid generic names are included in the book.
