Matthias Grünewald malte seine berühmte Isenheimer Kreuzigung als junger Ehemann einer Frankfurter Jüdin, getauft im Sommer vor der großen Hochzeit im großen Dom von Frankfurt, zu einer Zeit, als bei der "Judensau" am Frankfurter Brückenturm die Farbe fast noch frisch war. Zu deutschen Zeiten einer "koordinierten Begeisterung für Grünewald und Hitler" war das unpässliche "Juden-Ennchin" ein Problem, das mit der Arisierung des (schlimmstenfalls selber jüdischen) Kirchenmalers zu "Mathis Gothart Nithart" ganz im harten Zeitgeist Lösung fand.
