Mechanizing Mathematical Reasoning
By presenting state-of-the-art results in logical reasoning and formal methods in the context of artificial intelligence and AI applications, this book commemorates the 60th birthday of Jörg H. Siekmann. The 30 revised reviewed papers are written by former and current students and colleagues of Jörg Siekmann; also included is an appraisal of the scientific career of Jörg Siekmann entitled "A Portrait of a Scientist: Logics, AI, and Politics." The papers are organized in four parts on logic and deduction, applications of logic, formal methods and security, and agents and planning.

Intellectics and Computational Logic
`Intellectics' seeks to understand the functions, structure and operation of the human intellect and to test artificial systems to see the extent to which they can substitute or complement such functions. The word itself was introduced in the early 1980s by Wolfgang Bibel to describe the united fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. The book collects papers by distinguished researchers, colleagues and former students of Bibel's, all of whom have worked together with him, and who present their work to him here to mark his 60th birthday. The papers discuss significant issues in intellectics and computational logic, ranging across automated deduction, logic programming, the logic-based approach to intellectics, cognitive robotics, knowledge representation and reasoning. Each paper contains new, previously unpublished, reviewed results. The collection is a state of the art account of the current capabilities and limitations of a computational-logic-based approach to intellectics. Automated Reasoning
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Joint Conference on Automated Reasoning, IJCAR 2001, held in Siena, Italy, in June 2001. The 37 research papers and 19 system descriptions presented together with three invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 112 submissions.
