Mierle Laderman Ukeles’s 1969 manifesto “Maintenance Art: Proposal for an Exhibition” was a major intervention in feminist performance practices and public art. The proposition argued for the intimate relationship between creative production in the public sphere and domestic labor—a relationship whose intricacies Ukeles has been unraveling, ever since. Starting in 1977, she became an unsalaried artist-in-residence at the New York City Department of Sanitation, a position that enabled her to introduce radical public art as mainstream culture into an urban system serving and owned by the municipal population. 00Through archival research, this monographic publication focuses on Ukeles’s work ballets—a series of large-scale collaborative performances involving workers, trucks, barges, and hundreds of tons of recyclables— which took place between 1983 and 2012 in Givors, Echigo-Tsumari, New York, Pittsburgh, and Rotterdam.

How to transcend land grab economies, even by means of art? The reader REALTY moves from the safety of critique to the vulgarity of suggestions. The pandemic's effect on mobility presents a historic opportunity. Rarely has criticism of our extractive artworld logic of one-place-after-another been louder. REALTY is a long-term curatorial program by Tirdad Zolghadr (*1973), initially commissioned by the KW Institute for Contemporary Art. With the help of numerous artists and experts who contributed over 2017–2020, this reader revisits how contemporary art can contribute to decisive conversations on urbanism. The Encyclopedia of Fictional Artists (1605 – today) is a project by Koen Brams, who together with co-editors, initiated a compilation of biographies from fictional artists as presented in world literature. Although published and distributed in a different context (literature), this compilation provokes the perception of the art context as a descriptive narrative and is therefore to be seen as a conceptual framework for potential artistic additions. The Addition is Krist Gruijthuijsen's editorial answer To The Encyclopedia, inviting more than 20 artists to reflect upon the problematics of fiction, history, and encyclopedic knowledge. Brought together by a bellyband, The two volumes constitute the first English edition of Brams' classic (first published in Dutch). Published with Kunstverein, Amsterdam; de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam; Mondriaan Foundation, Amsterdam; and with the help of the Flemish Literature Fund, Antwerp as well as the Foundation For The Production and Translation of Dutch Literature.

In seinem nur zwölf Jahre umfassenden Schaffen brach der iranische Theatermacher Reza Abdoh mit sämtlichen Parametern des Theaters und brachte seine Schauspieler und das Publikum oft an ihre Grenzen. Seine halluzinatorischen Traumlandschaften waren eindringlich, seine Inszenierungen adressierten sprachgewaltig die bitteren politischen Realitäten seiner Zeit – vom staatlich sanktionierten Rassismus über die Weigerung der Reagan-Regierung, sich der AIDS-Krise anzunehmen, bis hin zu den Kriegen der USA. Kurz vor seinem Tod verfügte er, dass seine Stücke nicht neu aufgeführt werden dürfen. Der Katalog enthält neben zahlreichen Abbildungen neue Essays über die Einflüsse und Rezeption seines Werkes, bereits publizierte und bisher unveröffentlichte Interviews mit Reza Abdoh, Gespräche mit Weggefährten sowie Skripte seiner Stücke und Presseberichte.
