Facing Asymmetry
The book analyzes the concept of asymmetry in international relations on the example of United States and Mexico. This bilateral relation is introduced within wider historical, economic and political context. It also includes a case study on perceptions of Mexico in U.S. media. The study focuses on critical issues in bilateral relations within the context of asymmetric relations. Economic integration under North American Free Trade Agreement, extensive migration from Mexico to the U.S. and the issue of drug-trafficking and drug-control efforts are analyzed in this respect. The concluding chapter uses the findings to conceptualize asymmetric relations and presents possible applications of the key findings to complex bilateral issues.

Tato kniha přichází s novým pohledem na Spojené státy, který vychází z nutnosti překonat nekriticky obdivné i nekriticky odsuzující přístupy. Nový přístup je založen na hlubším pochopení vnitřní rozmanitosti, rozporuplnosti i rozhádanosti uvnitř americké politiky i společnosti. Druhotným cílem publikace je ukázat na možnosti, které skýtá nová renesance teritoriálních studií jako přístupu ke zkoumání světa kolem nás, který dokáže kombinovat historické, politické, ekonomické, sociální a kulturní přístupy při zodpovídání závažných a zároveň složitých otázek. Tyto znalosti v různých teritoriálních kontextech nám mohou výrazně pomoci při našich vlastních volbách – každodenních i osudových.
Memory in Transatlantic Relations
This volume focuses on the uses of collective memory in transatlantic relations between the United States, and Western and Central European nations in the period from the Cold War to the present day. Sitting at the intersection of international relations, history, memory studies and various "area" studies, Memory in Transatlantic Relations examines the role of memory in an international context, including the ways in which policy and decision makers utilize memory; the relationship between trauma, memory and international politics; the multiplicity of actors who shape memory; and the role of memory in the conflicts in post-Cold War Europe. Thematically organized and presenting studies centered on the U.S., Hungary, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the authors explore the built environment (memorials) and performances of memory (commemorations), shedding light on the ways in which memories are mobilized to frame relations between the U.S. and nations in Western and Central Europe. As such, it will appeal to scholars across the social sciences and historians with interests in memory studies, foreign policy and international relations.
Czech Security Dilemma
This volume examines the future directions of Czech international policy through an interdisciplinary analysis of both historical and current Russian-Czech relations. It analyses Czech relations with Russia based on their historical heritage underpinned by the superpower’s behaviour and interests in the Central European region.
