Ošetřovatelská péče v diabetologii
Diabetologie pro ošetřovatelskou praxi vznikla hlavně proto, že frekvence diabetu v populaci se neustále zvyšuje. Ve snaze zamezit dalšímu nárůstu je třeba vzdělat v diabetologii nejen lékaře a pacienty samotné, ale i zdravotní sestry. Ošetřovatelství je u osoby s diabetem zaměřeno zejména na udržení a podporu zdraví a na rozvoj soběstačnosti, významně se podílí na prevenci, diagnostice a terapii diabetu. Ošetřovatelský personál vede osoby s diabetem k sebepéči, edukuje jejich blízké v poskytování laické ošetřovatelské péče. Osobám s diabetem, které o sebe nemohou, nechtějí, či neumějí pečovat, zajišťuje profesionální ošetřovatelskou péči. O osoby s diabetem by měl tedy pečovat ošetřovatelský personál, jehož vzdělání a zkušenosti mu umožňují reagovat na specifické problémy této klientely.
