This book is the result of a Meeting held in L'Aquila (Italy) from the 19th to the 23rd of June 1989. The aim of the Meeting was to gather together the people actively working on the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation, both from an experimental and from a theoretical point of view. In view of the intensive current activity in this field, including ongoing (COBE) and forthcoming (RELIC II, ISO, AELITA, etc. ) space missions, a meeting fully dedicated to this important topic was timely. The meeting also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Microwave Background discovery made in 1964 by the Nobel Prize winners A. Penzias and R. Wilson. We greatly regret that we were not able to have them a...
This volume covers major aspects of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) and the virus which causes it. Chapters are written by leading experts in their fields and detail historical, public health, epidemiological, and clinical aspects of CCHF and the genetics and molecular biology of the virus. Additional chapters focus on disease control, tick vectors and infection among animals, both natural and experimental.
This volume starts the updating of the information on organonickel chemistry, one of the most active areas of modern organometallic chemistry. It covers all mononuclear compounds containing one nickel-to-carbon bond. The main part is devoted to the family of planar NiII compounds, RNi(D)2X, which within 20 years has increased from about 250 to more than 1000 members. This research interest has been stimulated by the fact that many compounds insert various unsaturated species into the Ni-C bond to create new organonickel species. Moreover, these compounds are important as intermediates in many catalytic processes involving organic halides. Compounds containing h*2-bonded heteroalkene molecule...
This text examines the formation, physical characteristics and chemical properties of 1,3-alkadienephosphonates with various structures. The special features of P-C bond-forming reactions and methods of forming conjugated multiple bond systems as applied in the synthesis of 1,3-alkadienephosphonates are discussed and the application of physical methods, especially 1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR and X-ray crystallography, in determining the structures of organophosphorus compounds is demonstrated. The principal reactions of 1,3-alkadienephosphonates are presented.
