This book presents a review of theoretical and experimental work on the problem of the interplay of Anderson localization and superconductivity in strongly disordered systems. Superconductivity persists close to disorder-induced metal-insulator transition in a number of real systems, e.g. amorphous metals and compounds, systems disordered by fast neutron irradiation, systems with impurities, etc. High temperature superconductors are especially interesting from this point of view, as the experiments with controllable disordering may provide important clues to the nature of electronic states in these systems. The book starts with a brief discussion on modern aspects of localization theory, incl...
Fundamentals of Biosensors in Healthcare: Volume One provides comprehensive coverage on fundamentals while also delving into the diverse types of biosensors used in healthcare. This first of three volumes covers biosensors in healthcare and explains the history, classifications, and fundamentals of biosensing. It presents current research and the development of biosensors, while also exploring and detailing the distinct types of biosensors and their application in healthcare. Combined with Volume Two, Materials and Components of Biosensors in Healthcare and Volume Three, Applications of Biosensors in Healthcare, users will find a holistic set of reference sources that are suitable for researchers, graduate students, postgraduates, and industry professionals involved in biosensing, biosensors, and biomedical applications. - Provides information on the basic principles and types of biosensors used in healthcare - Examines current research, potential challenges, and future prospects for biosensor technologies - Contributed by global leaders and experts in the field from academia, research, and industry
Exegesis has ethical dimensions. This is the case for the Bible, which has a foundational status in traditional perspectives that is simultaneously contested in the modern world. This innovative essay collection, largely about Hebrew Bible/Old Testament texts, is written by an international team – all Doktorkinder of a pioneer in this area, Professor John Barton, whose 70th birthday this volume celebrates. With interdisciplinary angles, the essays highlight the roles and responsibilities of the biblical scholar, often located professionally between religious and secular domains. This reflects a broader reality: all readers of texts are engaged ethically in the public square of ideas.
This book presents the thoroughly refereed joint post-proceedings of three workshops held during the 17th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER '98, in Singapore in November 1998. The 50 revised papers presented have gone through two rounds of reviewing and revision. The book is divided in sections on knowledge discovery, data mining, data and web warehousing, multidimensional databases, data warehouse design, caching, data dissemination, replication, mobile networks, mobile platforms, tracking and monitoring, collaborative work support, temporal data modelling, moving objects and spatial indexing, spatio-temporal databases, and video database contents.
First multi-year cumulation covers six years: 1965-70.
In many of nowadays web-based environments for electronic marketing and commerce, that present large multimedia product and service catalogues, it becomes more and more difficult to provide naive end users, such as private consumers or commercial business partners, with intuitive user interfaces to access the large multimedia collections describing the presented products and services. The same holds for marketing managers and other employees responsible for managing and maintaining the large and constantly changing set of multimedia information chunks and fragments contained in these collections. As a consequence, many efforts are devoted to improve the quality of the interaction between users and databases. Virtual Reality (VR) techniques are a promising interaction paradigm particularly suited to novice and/or occasional users. The users are facilitated in the database navigation since the system proposes them an environment that reproduces a real situation and gives the possibility of interacting by manipulating objects that have a direct correspondence with known objects.
