Der „Landwirtschaftliche Verein in Bayern“, nur kurz nach der Erhebung Bayerns zum Königreich gegründet, wollte über die Entwicklung der Agrarökonomie einen Beitrag zum Erstarken des jungen Staates leisten. Nicht zuletzt durch die jährliche Veranstaltung des Zentralen Landwirtschaftsfests (Oktoberfests) auf der Theresienwiese in München wirkte er auf die Bevölkerung ein. Zugleich vertrat er die Anliegen der Landwirtschaft vor Parlament und Regierung. Letztere begleitete ihn von Anfang an mit Wohlwollen. Die zeitweilige Präsidentschaft des Kronprinzen Maximilian ist nur einer der Belege für die Bedeutung des Vereins. Dennoch war sein Verhältnis zur Staatsmacht höchst ambivalent...
