This book introduces major agent platforms, frameworks, systems, tools, and applications. Each system is described by their developers in sufficient detail so that the reader can get a good understanding of the architecture, functionality, and application areas of the system. All systems are running systems. One main focus of the book lies on agent platforms and toolkits.
Multi-Agent Systems are a promising technology to develop the next generation open distributed complex software systems. The main focus of the research community has been on the development of concepts (concerning both mental and social attitudes), architectures, techniques, and general approaches to the analysis and specification of multi-agent systems. This contribution has been fragmented, without any clear way of “putting it all together”, rendering it inaccessible to students and young researchers, non-experts, and practitioners. Successful multi-agent systems development is guaranteed only if we can bridge the gap from analysis and design to effective implementation. Multi-Agent Programming: Languages, Tools and Applications presents a number of mature and influential multi-agent programming languages, platforms, development tools and methodologies, and realistic applications, summarizing the state of the art in an accessible manner for professionals and computer science students at all levels.
The field covered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) is multiform and gathers subjects as various as the engineering of knowledge, the automatic treatment of the language, the training and the systems multiagents, and more. This book focuses on subjects including Machine Learning, Reasoning, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, and Multiagent Systems.
This book gives detailed descriptions of the development of two large scale multiagent systems: Agent.Hospital and Agent.Enterprise. These two systems have been developed in close cooperation with more than 20 enterprises and hospitals. They demonstrate clearly that multiagent technology has a great potential for innovative information systems, if a high degree of flexibility of the overall systems is required, e.g. because human actors and technical systems exhibit a great degree of local autonomy, or if the work environment is highly dynamic.
This book collects 43 regular papers received from 18 countries that present innovative advances in intelligent and distributed computing, encompassing both architectural and algorithmic results related to these fields. Significant attention is given to new models, techniques, and applications for distributed intelligent architectures and high-performance architectures, machine learning techniques, Internet of Things, blockchain, intelligent transport systems, data analytics, trust and reputation systems, and many others. The book includes the peer-reviewed proceedings of the 14th International Symposium on Intelligent Distributed Computing (IDC 2021), which was held in online mode due to the COVSARS2 pandemic situation, during September 16–18, 2021. The IDC 2021 event included sessions on Internet of Things, data analytics, machine learning, multi-agent systems, algorithms, future intelligent transport solutions, blockchain, intelligent distributed computing for cyber-physical security, and security and trust and reputation in intelligent environments.
The focus of the book is on completed implementations of agent-based software systems. Here, agent technology is considered broadly, starting from development of agent platforms, all the way through systems actually implemented. The covered topics also include lessons learned during implementation of agent platforms and the reflection on the process of development and application of agent-based systems. The book includes 10 chapters where interested reader can find discussion of important issues encountered during development of well-known agent platforms such as JADE and Jadex as well as some interesting experiences in developing a new platform that combines software agent and Web Services. Furthermore, the book shows readers several valuable examples of applications based on multi-agent systems including simulations, agents in autonomous negotiations and agents in public administration modelling. We believe that the book will prove useful to the researchers, professors and the practitioners in all disciplines including science and technology.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Programming Multi-Agent Systems, ProMAS 2005, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands in July 2005 as an associated event of AAMAS 2005, the main international conference on autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. The 14 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited articles are organized in topical sections on multi-agent techniques and issues, multi-agent programming, and multi-agent platforms and organization.
The 33 peer-reviewed contributions published in this book address a wide range of topics related to the theory and applications of intelligent distributed computing and multi-agent systems. They cover topics from bio-informatics to semantic web services.
This book presents a collection of contributions addressing recent advances and research in synergistic combinations of topics in the joint fields of intelligent computing and distributed computing. It focuses on the following specific topics: distributed data mining and machine learning, reasoning and decision-making in distributed environments, distributed evolutionary algorithms, trust and reputation models for distributed systems, scheduling and resource allocation in distributed systems, intelligent multi-agent systems, advanced agent-based and service-based architectures, and Smart Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The book represents the combined peer-reviewed proceedings of the 11th International Symposium on Intelligent Distributed Computing (IDC 2017) and the 7th International Workshop on Applications of Software Agents (WASA 2017), both of which were held in Belgrade, Serbia from October 11 to 13, 2017.
This book represents the combined peer-reviewed proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Intelligent Distributed Computing -- IDC 2011 and of the Third International Workshop on Multi-Agent Systems Technology and Semantics -- MASTS 2011.
