El presente libro que tiene en sus manos ha sido elaborado por un conjunto amplio y diverso de académicos y académicas de la Escuela de Psicología de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile, a partir de la irrupción de dos fenómenos sociales inéditos en nuestra historia reciente. Nuestros autores han buscado en cada uno de los capítulos que lo componen dar cuenta de cómo el llamado “estallido social”, que surge en octubre de 2019, y el advenimiento de una de las peores crisis sanitarias a nivel mundial reconocida como la Pandemia del COVID-19, han impactado tanto en la salud mental de los chilenos y chilenas, así como las implicancias en los variados aspectos que connota la vida social y cotidiana de los mismos.

The artists featured in The Black Index--Dennis Delgado, Alicia Henry, Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle, Titus Kaphar, Whitfield Lovell, and Lava Thomas--build upon the tradition of Black self-representation as an antidote to colonialist images. Their translations of photography challenge the medium's long-assumed qualities of objectivity, legibility, and identification. Using drawing, sculpture, and digital technology to transform the recorded image, these artists question our reliance on photography as a privileged source for documentary objectivity and historical understanding. The works featured here offer an alternative practice--a Black index. In the hands of these six artists, the index still serves as a finding aid for information about Black subjects, but it also challenges viewers' desire for classification and, instead, redirects them toward alternative information.

In his short life, Bollinger created an oeuvre that is complex, radical and intense, and well worth rediscovering. At the same time, the show aims to contribute to the current reappraisal of hitherto neglected art positions. At the height of the space race, he was creating sculptures that explore the gravity, balance and specific properties of a wide variety of materials. The cosmos and water are key elements in the work of Bollinger, who was fascinated by curved space, the vertical and the horizontal, resulting in evanescent, purist, energy-laden works with a radical edge that still have the power to astound us, even today.
