Escape from Pandemonium

Women throughout the Arizona Territory are being kidnapped and then taken to an outlaw sanctuary called Pandemonium where they become slaves of the outlaws who reside there. Every rescue attempt by sheriffs, marshals, and posses have failed, and the soldiers from Fort Apache and Fort Bowie are too busy fighting the Chiricahua Apaches to offer any help. One wealthy rancher, Wallace Blanchard, whose two daughters, Ella and Laura, have been kidnapped and taken to Pandemonium offers a huge reward to anyone crazy enough to ride to the outlaw sanctuary, find his two daughters, and then bring them both safely back to him. Only a few men respond to the Blanchard's offer, and the few who do are kille...

Grit, Not Glamour

Grit, Not Glamour

Grit, Not Glamour celebrates the contributions of our foremothers who devoted their lives to farming and ranching related pursuits. Some embraced their roles; others detested the life; often their contributions were minimized or overlooked. Readers will meet a community of spunky, brazen, plucky, (and in a couple of cases dishonest), hardworking gals who donned trousers, tucked long hair under a straw hat, nurtured plants and baby livestock, studied the markets, fretted over the weather, disseminated vital information, scraped animal dung from their boots, enjoyed a few hours of deep sleep afforded by hours in the fresh country air, only to rise early the next day and start all over again. Anyone who has lived and worked on a family farm or ranch may relate to the experiences of the women who are profiled. Town dwellers and urbanites generations removed from the farm or their rural communities, who grew up hearing grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ stories, will appreciate these women who may or may not resemble in any way their foremothers.

Clinton

Established in 1802 as the county seat of Anderson County and originally named Burrville in honor of Aaron Burr, the first-term vice president under Thomas Jefferson, Clinton was renamed by the Tennessee legislature in 1809. The arrival of the railroad after the Civil War made large-scale mining of coal the area's main industry for nearly a century, and the resulting growth in population was one of the deciding factors in the federal government's building of the "Secret City" of Oak Ridge, as part of its World War II Manhattan Project, just 16 miles to the southwest. From the late 1880s until the completion of the Tennessee Valley Authority's Norris Dam in 1936, Clinton was also a major center of the Clinch River freshwater pearl trade. Construction of the dam altered the river's temperature, which killed off the pearl industry, but the creation of Norris Lake became the basis on which the area's tourism industry was founded.

The Secrets She Keeps

Tonight, I need sex like a fish needs water. I am not going to die on the sand gasping for air like a suffocating koi. Enter my co-worker, Lucas. I’d never noticed he was a man who could rock my boat. I glance at my watch again. The little hands are inching up on midnight. I look around the bar. There aren’t any other men left, so my eyes zero in on the lone prospect: Lucas. There is no way I am going to bed alone. I hitch up my dress to show more thigh, then drop my room key on the table. I don’t look back to see if he follows…because I know he will. When the lock clicks on my hotel room door, I know I have him. My only goal: to get off, then convince him that this can only happen a...
