Many universities and colleges, however, now have a new or renewed emphasis on outreach beyond the campus, seeking to ensure their institutions' relevance to the community at large. William Gascoigne was born in about 1715. He married Catherine Dunbar and they lived in Middlesex, England. They had two children, Mary and Charles Richmond Gascoyne. They emigrated in about 1734 and settled in South Carolina. Charles married Sarah Tipper 25 July 1744 in Charleston. They had four children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in South Carolina.
