Leda Catunda - Tempo Circular
Tempo circular traça um panorama da obra da artista Leda Catunda explicitando os efeitos cíclicos do tempo em sua obra, apresentando os trabalhos dos últimos 15 anos e os relacionando a outros realizados ao longo da carreira iniciada nos anos 1980. “Parece que meus trabalhos atuais conferem outros significados aos mais antigos, quase como se os últimos melhorassem os primeiros”, diz a artista. A publicação destaca o interesse da artista pelos universos popular e kitsch e a construção de uma poética visual onde o uso de imagens de acervo pessoal ou da internet se unem a suportes não convencionais, ao trabalho de formas arredondadas e orgânicas. Tempo circular conta ainda com um ensaio do curador Paulo Miyada e com uma entrevista realizada pela curadora Fernanda Brenner com a artista.

A mostra reúne mais de uma centena de trabalhos, realizados de 2003 a 2016, entre pinturas, colagens, gravuras, desenhos e objetos, além de obras feitas especialmente para as paredes das salas do Instituto. Neste conjunto, o uso do desenho como estrutura pictórica estabelece uma síntese inédita do transbordamento de imagens e matérias recorrente na obra de Catunda. Como uma catalizadora da cultura material, a artista constrói reflexões sobre assuntos tais como o consumo, as várias estridentes linguagens comportamentais, a efemeridade e a espetacularização, a partir da utilização de elementos cotidianos, como toalhas, tapetes, lonas, plásticos, camisetas, janelas, fórmicas, entre outros.

Gaps and the Creation of Ideas: An Artist’s Book is a portrait of the space between things, whether they be neurons, quotations, comic-book frames, or fragments in a collage. This twenty-year project is an artist’s book that juxtaposes quotations and images from hundreds of artists and writers with the author’s own thoughts. Using Adobe InDesign® for composition and layout, the author has structured the book to show analogies among disparate texts and images. There have always been gaps, but a focus on the space between things is virtually synonymous with modernity. Often characterized as a break, modernity is a story of gaps. Around 1900, many independent strands of gap thought and experience interacted and interwove more intricately. Atoms, textiles, theories, women, Jews, collage, poetry, patchwork, and music figure prominently in these strands. The gap is a ubiquitous phenomenon that crosses the boundaries of neuroscience, rabbinic thinking, modern literary criticism, art, popular culture, and the structure of matter. This book explores many subjects, but it is ultimately a work of art.
