Matthew B. Ridgway
Matthew B. Ridgway was a significant figure in United States history. He commanded the 82nd Airborne Division in the invasion in Europe; he succeeded MacArthur in Korea; he was the U.S. delegate to the United Nations; he served as Supreme Commander of the Far East and Supreme Commander in Europe. He was counselor to four presidents, helped found a university research center on national security, and was a powerful influence in national affairs for 40 years. Ridgways in the U.S.A.
Richard Ridgway (ca. 1648-1723), his wife, Elizabeth Chamberlain and their son, Thomas emigrated from England in 1679. They went to Delaware River Falls, and later moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Descendants included Matthew Bunker Ridgway, General, U.S. Army, Heber Jeddy Grant, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his father Jedediah Morgan Grant.
