Which factors favour successful teacher education? The volume presents interdisciplinary projects with the aim of further developing the quality of teacher education in two central fields of action: in the area of improving the quality of practical relevance and in the orientation of teacher education towards the requirements of heterogeneity and inclusion. Conditions for success are derived from the empirical project results and presented in accordance with Urie Bronfenbrenner's ecosystemic approach. The focus is particularly on the transferability and sustainability of the tested measures and best practice examples in order to enable implementation in other contexts.

This series in teacher education, Self-study of Teacher Education Practices (S-STEP), is designed to capture and portray a range of approaches to se- study of teaching and teacher education practices. In so doing, it is anti- pated that the work of teachers and teacher educators might come to be better understood and valued as the complexity of the work of teaching and teaching about teaching is articulated and described for others. The series was initiated in order to complement the International Handbook of Self-study of Teaching and Teacher Education Practices (Loughran et al., 2004) so that the diversity in approaches to self-study could be highlighted for all those involved in the teach...
Schools and Delinquency, first published in 2001, provides a comprehensive review and critique of the current research about the causes of delinquency, substance use, drop-out, and truancy, and the role of the school in preventing these behavior patterns. Examining school-based prevention programs and practices for grades K-12, Denise Gottfredson identifies a broad array of effective strategies improving the school environment, as well as some that specifically target youths at risk of developing problem behaviors. She also explains why several popular school-based prevention strategies are ineffective and should be abandoned. Gottfredson analyzes, within the larger context of the community, the special challenges to effective prevention programming that arise in disorganized settings, identifying ways to overcome these obstacles and to make the most troubled schools safer and more productive environments.
This book is a practical guide to help researchers draw valid causal inferences from small-scale clinical intervention studies. It should be of interest to teachers of, and students in, courses with an experimental clinical component, as well as clinical researchers. Inferential statistics used in the analysis of group data are frequently invalid for use with data from single-case experimental designs. Even non-parametric rank tests provide, at best, approximate solutions for only some single-case (and small-n ) designs. Randomization (Exact) tests, on the other hand, can provide valid statistical analyses for all designs that incorporate a random procedure for assigning treatments to subjec...
