A Mouse That Roared

Born in Ireland in 1915, Leonard Wibberley spent an adventure-filled childhood there and in England. His father's untimely death when Leonard was fifteen years old forced him to make his own way in the world. Finding work as a cub reporter for a London newspaper he discovered a passion for writing that led to a twenty year career in journalism that took him from London to Trinidad to New York City and finally to Los Angeles where Wibberley left the newspaper business to become a full-time author. From 1952 until his death in 1983 Leonard Wibberley wrote over 100 books and plays (an average of 4 publications a year). "...The setting is the newly independent West African state of Toomi, to which Arthur Ledwidge comes on the eve of revolution -- the issue, insistence on the part of the ruling whites that the natives abandon their ancient culture, prove their loyalty by their degree of 'whiteness.' Mr. Wibberley portrays his people, the contentious atmosphere and the eventual violence with great dramatic effect; and in his delineation of the dimension beyond Toomi -- the road from Toomi -- he is both perceptive and compassionate..." -- Dust jacket.

Stranger at Killknock

A story of spiritual values, about a devoted young priest in an Irish fishing village who battles with the Celtic superstitions of the villagers... The Irish meaning of the name of the village—Killknock—is “the church on the mountain.” It is a little place, no more than two hundred souls and all but one of them Catholic. A poor and ancient fishing village, it is devoutly Christian while still believing in old Celtic myths, legends and superstitions. Who the stranger was, no one knew.
