This book explores the nature of grassroots unity in the British charismatic renewal in the 1970s and its significance to ecumenism. The study is based on the five international conferences of the Fountain Trust and focuses on two grassroots activities: worship in general and the celebration of the Eucharist in particular. Worship in this setting nurtured unity through charisms, but the Eucharist exposed the inadequacy of this grassroots unity because of doctrinal and ecclesiological differences. This book aims to suggest a way forward by searching for the complementarity of institution and charisms, and Christology and Pneumatology in a charismatic context. It argues that the two emphases o...

This expansive study offers an interpretation of the 'new Pentecost': the rise of charismatic Christianity, before, during, and after the 'long 1960s'. It examines the translocal actors, networks, and media which constructed a 'Spiritscape' of charismatic renewal in the Anglo-world contexts of Australia, the British Isles, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States. It places this arena also in a wider and dynamic worldwide setting, exploring the ways in which charismatic imaginations of an 'age of the Spirit' were shaped by interpenetrations with the 'Third World', the Soviet Bloc, and beyond in the global Sixties and Seventies. A unique account of a little-known yet momentous effort to join forces in proclaiming the gospel in a society shaped by increasing decline in church attendance and major social challenges.
Previously published under the title Alive to God through Prayer, this book has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the current prayer needs of Christians. Demaray offers an enlightening study of how prayer works and explains how any Christian can develop a richer prayer life. Here you will learn how to establish a personal pattern of prayer, how to pray for specific needs (growth, healing, revival, etc.), how to lead a prayer group, how to pray with your family, and much more. One chapter entitled Especially for Ministers and Prayer Group Leaders gives a wealth of practical suggestions to help Christian leaders enrich the prayer life of their congregations. A section of discussion questions at the end of each chapter will prompt you to think further and try some of the prayer methods Demaray describes. These questions also can serve as a springboard for group discussions.
Characterisation of the shallow subsurface has gained in importance as civil and geotechnical engineering and environmental applications have become more dependent on a precise definition of geomechanical and geohydrological properties. A better understanding of the subsurface conditions offers wide-ranging benefits to governments, industry and individual citizens. Subsurface geological modelling became an economic and technologic reality in the late 1980's, when competing 3-D geoscientific information systems were the subject of considerable research and evaluation, especially by the petroleum exploration industry. Investigations in the shallow subsurface impose additional requirements that...
