Hudson
Hudson began in 1699 as a cluster of small industries in the northern part of the town of Marlborough, situated by the swift-flowing Assabet River. Through the years, the industries prospered and the largely immigrant workers began to bring their families to America from overseas. New homes were soon built for these families as stores, churches, and schools sprang up around town. As this factory neighborhood progressed and became self-reliant, residents petitioned the state government to become their own independent town. Because of their efforts, the town of Hudson was incorporated in 1866.

Lake Boon
Lake Boon is a beautiful 65-acre lake located west of Boston. Beginning in the 1920s, its accessibility from Boston and western suburbs via two railroads made it a popular vacation spot. Attracted by its natural beauty, a lively and decorous summer community grew and returned year after year to enjoy boating, bathing, fishing, and many other activities. Photographers were also attracted to the lake, and many of their images became postcards used by the lake residents and visitors to send to friends and relatives. Through vintage postcards, Lake Boon is a visual journey around the lake as it looked in the early 1900s.
Hudson's National Guard Militia
Of the many National Guard units in Massachusetts, the Hudson unit is recognized as being one of the best. Since 1866, the unit has participated in each of the combat arms: the infantry, armor, cavalry, and artillery branches. Members of Hudson's National Guard have been automobile mechanics, machinists, shoemakers, draftsmen, furniture builders, carpenters, short-order cooks, factory workers, and farmers, and they all contribute something unique to the company. These men believe in what they do, train hard to perfect their skills, and help the newly commissioned officers learn how to manage personnel.
Maynard
Maynard was incorporated in 1871 as a manufacturing community. By 1880, it was one of the most influential towns in Massachusetts. As the population boomed from an expansion in business, postcards became the substantial method of communication. Local photographers took advantage of the events, pictorial venues, and influx of immigrants and visitors to create many unusual postcards of Maynard. Through vintage postcards, Maynard shows how this town, once a farming community, has retained its friendly, small-town character.
Stow

Assabet Mills
The sleepy town of Assabet Village woke up very quickly when the Assabet Mills was built in 1847. Dams were constructed on the river, millponds were created, and large mills began producing yarn and carpets. Soon the village was turning into a town with stores, churches, schools, and government. As the mill grew, so did the town; the population grew to 7,000 people by 1905. During good times, the mill prospered, but during bad times, it faltered and had to re-invent itself. It had almost as many lives as the proverbial cat. Maynard, Massachusetts
More than 300 years ago, 25 men from the neighboring towns of Sudbury, Marlborough, and Stow crossed over the hills to a wide expanse of rolling hills and valleys crossed by countless brooks, each pouring into the river's tranquil current that wound its way into the sea. It is little cause for wonder that these pioneers petitioned to the General Court of the New England Colonies in 1685 to appoint them proprietors of the rich territory that would become Maynard. As the settlement grew, industry prospered along the river: first a gristmill, then a paper mill, and later a carpet mill, which eventually turned into a very large woolen mill. The settlers again petitioned the court to establish their own town rather than being inhabitants of the Town of Stow or Sudbury, depending on which side of the river one lived. The courts granted permission in 1871 and the new Town of Maynard exploded to become the home of the largest woolen mill in New England. A century later, it became the headquarters of Digital Equipment Corporation and would come to be known as the Minicomputer Capital of the World.
