Somos todos professores em contínua formação e reflexão, compartilhando nossas experiências, ansiedades e propostas de otimização com base nos conhecimentos por nós adquiridos e também no feedback que outros atores (tutores e alunos) nos fornecem. Dessa forma, nossa posição crítico-reflexiva é essencial para a investigação de todas as ações didáticas que circundam o ensino a distância. Uma história de tantos nós
O Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia da Paraíba, Campus Cajazeiras, é fruto das aspirações da sociedade dos sertões do Rio Piranhas por conhecimento humano, profissionalizante, científico e tecnológico. A realização desse desejo iniciou-se por meio do Projeto de Lei n° 3305-A de 1984, implementado pelo então deputado federal Edme Tavares. Em 04 de dezembro de 1994, as portas se abrem: aconteceu a inauguração da Unidade de Ensino Descentralizada, sediada na cidade de Cajazeiras (UNED Cajazeiras), parte da Escola Técnica Federal da Paraíba. O eu e o outro
Esta obra consolida a memória do curso de licenciatura plena em Letras da UFRPE, unidade acadêmica de Serra Talhada. Pela distância, de 410 km, do polo central instalado na capital do estado, Recife, desde o início, os professores e a gestão local se uniram para realizar eventos integrados ao calendário acadêmico da graduação, assim como a Semana de Letras da UAST. Os capítulos (re)constroem a memória do curso e se atém ao elemento mais fundamental dos estudos das linguagens: a relação entre o Eu e o Outro. Esta publicação é destinada a estudantes, professores e interessados em uma educação, pautada em valores democráticos e no compromisso de conviver com o outro.
The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability. Also, it is hoped that this book can be useful for those involved in the development of public policies aimed at the conservation of this important global biome.
Labor and Product Market Reforms and External Imbalances: Evidence from Advanced Economies
We explore the impact of major labor and product market reforms on current account dynamics using a new “narrative” database of major changes in employment protection for regular workers and product market regulation for non-manufacturing industries covering 26 advanced economies over the past four decades. Our main finding is that product market deregulation is associated with a weakening of the current account, while labor market deregulation is associated with an improvement. These effects are transitory and driven by both saving and investment responses. Labor and product market reforms both have a more positive impact on the current account balance when implemented under weak macroeconomic conditions. Our results are broadly consistent with predictions from recent DSGE models with endogenous producer entry and labor market frictions.
Tropical Montane Cloud Forests
Until relatively recently the valuable tropical montane cloud forests (hereaf ter usually referred to as TMCFs) of the world had scarcely come under the assaults experienced by the downslope montane and lowland forests. Monetary Policy Transmission in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies
Central banks in emerging and developing economies (EMDEs) have been modernizing their monetary policy frameworks, often moving toward inflation targeting (IT). However, questions regarding the strength of monetary policy transmission from interest rates to inflation and output have often stalled progress. We conduct a novel empirical analysis using Jordà’s (2005) approach for 40 EMDEs to shed a light on monetary transmission in these countries. We find that interest rate hikes reduce output growth and inflation, once we explicitly account for the behavior of the exchange rate. Having a modern monetary policy framework—adopting IT and independent and transparent central banks—matters more for monetary transmission than financial development.
This Changes Everything: Climate Shocks and Sovereign Bonds
Climate change is already a systemic risk to the global economy. While there is a large body of literature documenting potential economic consequences, there is scarce research on the link between climate change and sovereign risk. This paper therefore investigates the impact of climate change vulnerability and resilience on sovereign bond yields and spreads in 98 advanced and developing countries over the period 1995–2017. We find that the vulnerability and resilience to climate change have a significant impact on the cost government borrowing, after controlling for conventional determinants of sovereign risk. That is, countries that are more resilient to climate change have lower bond yields and spreads relative to countries with greater vulnerability to risks associated with climate change. Furthermore, partitioning the sample into country groups reveals that the magnitude and statistical significance of these effects are much greater in developing countries with weaker capacity to adapt to and mitigate the consequences of climate change.
