Paediatric Rheumatology is an indispensible resource for the identification and management of specific rheumatological disorders. As well as covering common and rare rheumatological problems, there are also chapters on investigations and emergencies, designed for quick reference. The handbook includes dedicated topics on systemic diseases affecting rheumatology; the relevant clinical guidelines and information needed for a rheumatologist to successfully management a young patient; and, a coloured section for guidance on rash-related investigations. Paediatric Rheumatology is also fully endorsed by the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology and the UK Paediatric Rheumatology Clinical Studies Group.
This second fully revised and extended edition of “Zoonoses - Infections Affecting Humans and Animals” covers the most important pathogens impacting both human and animal public health and debates current developments in this interdisciplinary field from a One Health perspective. Following a "setting" approach, the individual chapters each review zoonoses occurring in a specific group of animals, such as production animals, pets or wildlife, or in a defined ecosystem. A focus is put on zoonoses emerging along the food chain and on antibiotic resistance as an increasing challenge in infectious disease management. Dr Mavromatis argues that this common, naturally occuring state may not only be distinct from wakefulness and sleep but unique in its nature and function, possibly carrying important evolutionary implications. He explores and analyzes the relationship between hypnagogia and other states, processes and experiences - such as sleepdreams, meditation, psi, schizophrenia, creativity, hypnosis, hallucinogenic drug-induced states, eidetic phenomena and epileptic states - and shows that, functioning in hypnagogia, we may gain knowledge of aspects of our mental nature which constitute fundamental underpinnings to all human thought. In addition functioning in hypnagogia is shown to play a significant part in mental and physical health.

This book has been written for the general health care professional, from every medical and paramedical specialization. Because pain is the most common factor driving patients to seek professional advice, it is likely that every physician, psychologist, and therapist has been clinically exposed to the difficulty and the frequent frustration of dealing with people in pain. All of them may find in this book some explanations for their puzzles and some updated information, which usually are published in specialized journals not ordinarily read by the general practitioner. Actually the book has been addressed to professionals at two different levels of general practice. At one level is the busy practitioner who treats most patients with' 'acute" pain, and who may use this information in daily practice to prevent the onset of chronic pain; a common effort from all professionals currently is needed to curb the "epidemic" of chronic pain in the United States. At another level the book has been addressed to the practitioner who may have a more intense desire to become involved in the actual management of chronic pain patients.
