Lisa Brenner was a successful business woman and was eventually blessed enough to become a dedicated and wonderful mother. She was a remarkable person who managed to juggle a successful career and her loving family. In her prime she discovered that she'd contracted cancer. She showed strong character and wonderful bravery as she fought this depilating disease eleven times. Her bravery and glamourous approach to her illness serves as an inspirational tale to all of us who face obstacles in life. Even though she faced pain her first thoughts were always of her husband Russell and son Marc. She fought to live long enough to see Marc into adulthood and eventually passed away as a proud mother and wife. The world is poorer for Lisa passing but her story is a guiding beacon of hope. Russell, her husband, had wanted Lisa's book to be put into print, as she had been writing this whilst fighting cancer. Even whilst she was ill she had continued to write her book, and with the help of Russell and their son Marc the book has been finished. Russell will be supporting Lisa's charities through the sale of the book.
The plays collected in this volume give artistic expression to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, especially at the level of individual lives forever altered. Besides telling the kinds of stories that the news media could not, these plays explore the deeply rooted problems plaguing New Orleans and illuminate many social, political, and environmental issues central to American life. The factual basis of these plays serves a documentary purpose, but, as drama, they personalize the events surrounding the storm, depicting unimaginable anguish, powerlessness, and displacement as well as courage, communal spirit, and activism.
