Clause Combining in Grammar and Discourse

Traditionally the study of syntax is restricted to the study of what goes on within the boundaries of the prosodic sentence. Although the nature of clause combining within a prosodic sentence has always been a central concern of traditional syntax (in GG, e.g. it underlies important research on deletion and anaphora), work within a discourse analysis framework has hardly been done. Analyses like this are given in the present volume.

"Braveheart with guns!" On the run and marked for death with the fate of a nation in his hands SAS sniper and guerrilla warfare specialist Finlay McColl just wants to return to his beloved Scottish Highlands and run his local village pub. But fate has other plans. When a corrupt Prime Minister and the incompetent military commander who caused his father's death, push Scotland and England to the edge of war, Fin must act to save his country. He must somehow evade an international manhunt, thwart the murderous plans of rogue nationalists, bolstered by dissident Irish Republicans, and convince the British government to let Scotland have its freedom. He's also up against his own demons: a love of whisky, a thirst to avenge his father's death and his inability to let anyone close to him, including the devoted Oona. At least he can count on his spotter and best mate Sabjirt 'Birt' Singhe. But Birt is in danger too ...

Research Project Management and Leadership

The project management approaches, which are used by millions of people internationally, are often too detailed or constraining to be applied to research. In this handbook, project management expert P. Alison Paprica presents guidance specifically developed to help with the planning, management, and leadership of research. Research Project Management and Leadership provides simplified versions of globally utilized project management tools, such as the work breakdown structure to visualize scope, and offers guidance on processes, including a five-step process to identify and respond to risks. The complementary leadership guidance in the handbook is presented in the form of interview write-ups...

Forgiven Never Forgotten

Rory Campbell, falsely accused of participating in the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe killings, is sentenced to hang as a sacrificial lamb while the real agents of the slaughter escape blame. He risks everything to convince the love of his life, Joneta MacDonald, of the truth. He can never forget how completely she owns his heart. Joneta MacDonald watches helplessly as her family is murdered by the king’s men, but forgiving Rory for his seeming participation is harder than she imagined. What must she endure besides the clan’s hatred, with the overwhelming odds against them as she clings to her love for a man labelled a traitor?

A Grammar of Kambera

The series builds an extensive collection of high quality descriptions of languages around the world. Each volume offers a comprehensive grammatical description of a single language together with fully analyzed sample texts and, if appropriate, a word list and other relevant information which is available on the language in question. There are no restrictions as to language family or area, and although special attention is paid to hitherto undescribed languages, new and valuable treatments of better known languages are also included. No theoretical model is imposed on the authors; the only criterion is a high standard of scientific quality. To discuss your book idea or submit a proposal, please contact Birgit Sievert.
