Telfair County

Creek Indians inhabited land that was to become Telfair County. The early population was made up of settlers of Scottish descent. They had to produce almost everything they used, from food to equipment. Named for Edward Telfair, a two-term governor of Georgia, the county was formed in 1807 from a portion of Wilkinson County. Gradually, several counties were formed from parts of Telfair. Since 1870, Telfair County has kept its current boundaries. The original county seat was located in Jacksonville, about 20 miles south of McRae, Georgia, where it was moved by the legislature in 1871. While Georgia was a hotbed of secession, Telfair County representatives to the Secession Convention in 1861 voted "no" to the resolution, reflecting the sentiment of the county's population. Even though there was strong objection to secession, many Telfair County citizens did their duty and volunteered to serve the Southern cause.

He wrote about vigilantes during the Covid lockdowns. What could possibly go wrong? Grant McLachlan is a researcher and writer who has exposed dirty politics at local and central government level. With a background in law and town planning, he moved to the sleepy seaside suburb of Snells Beach to convalesce. Walking his dog along the esplanade provided routine and social interaction with the large dog walking community. A group of beachfront Boomers had other ideas. Under the guise of the ratepayers’ association and Neighbourhood Support, they chipped away at banning the predominant activities of beach users. The priggish, Nimby killjoys targeted everyone from developers, picnickers, motor...

The Legs Murder Scandal

In Laurel, Mississippi, in 1935, a daughter in a wealthy and troubled family stood accused of murdering her mother. On her testimony, authorities arrested an equally prominent and well-to-do businessman, her reputed lover and accomplice. Ouida Keeton apparently shot her mother, chopped her up, and disposed of most of the corpse down the toilet and in the fireplace, burning all but the pelvic region and the thighs. Attempting to dispose of these remains on a one-lane, isolated road, Ouida left a trail of evidence that ended in her arrest. Witnesses had seen her driving there. Within hours, a hunter and his dogs found the body parts and the cloth in which she had wrapped them. Touted as the mo...
