Interpretations of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea by International Courts and Tribunals
This book addresses current developments concerning the interpretation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) on the part of international courts and tribunals. It does so from different perspectives, by focusing on the jurisprudence of international and regional bodies, such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), as well as international arbitral tribunals and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Body. The various contributions offer in-depth analyses of issues ranging from the interaction between the sources of the International Law of the Sea, to various substantial, procedural and institutional aspects of the regulatory framework established by UNCLOS. The book also focuses on the reference by international courts and tribunals, in Law of the Sea cases, to both general principles and rules concerning interpretation codified in the Vienna Conventions on the Law of Treaties.
The Defaulting State and the South China Sea Arbitration
This book focuses on the legal and procedural problems caused by China’s default in the South China Sea Arbitration. Many of these problems arose because in several respects, China departed from the conduct of other defaulting States in cases before the International Court of Justice. The book argues that the Tribunal, confronted with the difficulties of maintaining the balance between two parties in a situation of default, drew on the full range of its powers to ensure that neither China nor the Philippines would suffer from China’s default. Fractals in Engineering: Theoretical Aspects and Numerical Approximations
Fractal structures or geometries currently play a key role in all models for natural and industrial processes that exhibit the formation of rough surfaces and interfaces. Computer simulations, analytical theories and experiments have led to significant advances in modeling these phenomena across wild media. Many problems coming from engineering, physics or biology are characterized by both the presence of different temporal and spatial scales and the presence of contacts among different components through (irregular) interfaces that often connect media with different characteristics. This work is devoted to collecting new results on fractal applications in engineering from both theoretical and numerical perspectives. The book is addressed to researchers in the field.

Complementary Therapies for the Contemporary Healthcare
Complementary therapies (CTs) are practices, products or systems for health that are outside the domain of conventional medicine (also called Western or allopathic medicine), used either to treat illnesses or to promote health and well-being. Defining CTs is difficult, because the field is very broad and constantly changing. The list of what is considered CT changes continually, and therapies whose safety and effectiveness are demonstrated may become part of conventional medicine. We hope the information from the present book can collaborate in some manner with the ongoing process of evolution of the paradigms related to concepts of health, disease and healing.
